What we do.

Maru Maritime creates unique opportunities in ship owning, commercial, technical and overall end-to-end asset management throughout the life cycle of a ship.

01Throughout the life cycle of the ship

Asset Management

A ship is an investment as well as a working asset. We create opportunities in ship owning and manage vessels end to end: buying at the right price, financing sensibly, keeping the vessel in good condition and deciding when to sell.

Throughout, we report clearly on what the asset is worth, what it is earning and what it is costing.

What it includes

  • Acquisition screening, vessel inspection and sale-and-purchase support
  • Valuation monitoring and independent valuation coordination
  • Financing and structuring: bank debt, leasing and joint ventures
  • Budgeting, operating-cost control and capital expenditure planning
  • Fleet strategy, renewal and divestment timing
  • Investor reporting, governance and SPV administration
02Employment and earnings

Commercial Management

We take responsibility for how a ship earns: what employment it takes, how each voyage is run, and making sure the money actually comes in once the work is done.

We watch the market closely and measure ourselves against it. If a ship is underperforming, the owner hears it from us first, along with what we plan to do about it.

What it includes

  • Employment strategy aligned with owner objectives and market outlook
  • Freight market research, voyage estimation and earnings forecasting
  • Counterparty due diligence, credit assessment and KYC
  • Post-fixture management: laytime, demurrage and claims handling
  • Hire and freight invoicing, collection and reconciliation
  • Bunker planning and procurement coordination
  • Performance benchmarking and commercial reporting
03Connecting owners and charterers

Chartering

We find work for ships. That means talking to brokers and charterers, weighing the rate against the risk, and choosing business that suits the ship and the owner rather than just the highest number on the day.

The detail in a charter party matters. Speed and consumption warranties, trading limits, payment terms and off-hire clauses are where owners win or lose money, so we read every line.

What it includes

  • Time charters, short and long term
  • Voyage charters and spot market employment
  • Contracts of affreightment (COAs)
  • Evaluation of pool participation and commercial partnerships
  • Fixture negotiation and charter party drafting and review
  • Broker network management and cargo sourcing
  • Period-versus-spot strategy through the freight cycle
